At MAitRI, we believe in the magic of togetherness, where every conversation echoes the warmth of home and every gathering feels like a celebration of our roots. We are a community woven together by our love for the Bengali language, culture, and traditions—a prabashi paradise where nostalgia meets new friendships.
MAitRI encompasses the essence of harmony (মৈত্রী in Bengali) and is a reference to the states of RI and MA, whose residents were the most involved in its formation. However, membership is open to any resident of any other neighboring state who is committed to the idea of harmony and unity and identifies as a Bengali (language, culture, or sentiment).
Our vision is to build a strong, connected Bengali community that feels empowered to uphold its cultural identity, support one another, and contribute positively to the society at large.
At MAitRI, our mission is to celebrate the Bengali language and culture–representing people speaking Bangla on either side of the Bangladesh-India border– under an overarching theme of multiculturalism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, going beyond religious and political lines, with a concurrent focus on serving the community in Rhode Island through charitable initiatives.
